Vitamin D is important for e.g. the immune system, insulin function, nerve function, heart muscle function, bone formation, etc. Too high levels of vitamin D can, on the other hand, cause hypercalcemia (elevated level of calcium in the blood) and can after a long time result in calcification of soft tissue tissues and cause damage, among other things on kidneys, blood vessels, heart and lungs. Therefore, it is important to test the levels so that you can know if you have the right levels.
